Introduction

Silla Sori Festival mainly focuses on the King Seongdeok Divine Bell (Emille Bell), established during the Unified Silla period, and takes place in Gyeongju, embracing its thousand-year-old heritage. The festival is managed by BBS (Buddhist Broadcasting System), and sponsored by Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Bulguksa Temple and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The festival venue is a grass field around Cheomseongdae Observatory, where the varied programs such as the tolling of the model Emille Bell, weighting about 6 tons, and Silla Culture experience, reappearance of Silla Gandeunghoe (lamp ceremony) and others are prepared. The festival has been held since 2012 to acknowledge the value of the ‘King Seongdeok Divine Bell’, featuring the most beautiful bell existing in the world, made in our own way, and honoring the spirit.

[Official event] - Emille ceremony - Opening event - Daedong Gwangdeungnori [Performances] - Korean music performance - Silla culture performance - Traditional folk play - Madangnori (play), etc. [Exhibition] - Emille museum [Hands-on program] - Silla culture experience - Ceramic pottery making experiences and exhibition - Silla traditional Dasik - Traditional market places that sells wild greens, fruits, vegetables, a various types of grains    including rice and clothes & fabrics - Silla Lantern Lighting * The event programs are subject to change.

Event Location

[Bus] From Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal, take an intercity bus. Or, take an express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal. Cross the crosswalk toward Hyundai Oilbank (Gas Station) and take Bus 100. Get off at Wolseong-dong Community Center Bus Stop. (8 bus stops away) Take a right at the first alley and continue walking straight until Cheomseongdae Observatory appears.
