Introduction

Guwau Village (Taebaek, Gangwon-do) is host to the Taebaek Sunflower Festival, a celebration of the area’s wide array of colorful wildflowers and endless fields of sunflowers (the largest sunflower patch in Korea). The festival takes place in about a 661,157㎡ filled with 300 species of wild flowers along with a sunflower field walking path and other hands-on program with wild flowers.



Programs

[Exploring a flower field]
Sunflower fields and cosmos field, fir trees and plants grown at 800m of altitude of Baekdudaegan, mountain medicinal wild herb exhibitions and tour, garden with a pond, stone-wall road, walking trails, etc.

[Exhibition and Performance Event]
Sunflower concert organized by KORAIL, photo exhibitions, outdoor sculpture exhibitions, cross-stitching art exhibition and sale of sunflower cross-stitches

[Hands-On Programs]
Making sunflower handkerchief and t-shirt, sunflower pot, feeding and watching animals (goat, deer, and goose), etc.

[Sales Event]
Sale of mini sunflower trees, seeds of wild flower and autumn flower, mountain medicinal herbs, fermented liquid (sunflower, omija, ogapi, fermented liquid tea of eomnamu (thorny tree broth), etc.), local products produced by Guwau sunflower village

[Food]
Guwau sunflower café (sunflower tea, pine needle tea, ogapi tea, etc.), naeng-udong (cold udon) with unique noodles and soup and jangteo-gukbap (Korean sausage and rice soup), gamja-jeon (potato pancakes), jeon (Korean pancakes), corns, etc.

Transportation

[By Intercity Bus]
From Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, take an intercity bus to Taebaek Terminal.
* Bus Schedule: 06:00-23:00, 30min intervals / Travel time: 3hrs, 10min

From Taebaek Terminal, take a taxi to Highlands Botanical Garden (고원자생식물원).


[By Train]
From Seoul Station to Taebaek Station (Estimated travel time: 4 hr)
Go to www.korail.com for train schedules

From Taebaek Station, take Bus #13 and get off at Korea Water Resources Corporation (수자원공사) bus stop.
Highlands Botanical Garden is about a 7 min walk from the bus stop
