“My family has been living in Gyeongju for ten years now, a place filled with mysterious remains from the past. Daereungwon is a complex of about 20 royal tombs from the Silla period (57 BC–935 AD), and among them, entering Cheonmachong (Tomb of the Heavenly Horse) is a truly special experience. From the relics discovered there, including a golden crown, you can imagine the splendor of Silla.”
Gyeongju Historic Areas World Cultural Heritage 2000 A city that cherishes the history and culture of the 1,000-year-old Silla Kingdom. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as “Gyeongju Historic Areas,” Gyeongju was the capital of Silla (57 BC – 935 AD) for almost 1,000 years since the founding of the kingdom. Many historical remains and relics are clustered here. The Mt. Namsan District is filled with Buddhist treasures, the Wolseong District was the site of a Silla palace, the Daereungwon District houses many royal tombs, the Hwangnyongsa District was the site of the famous Hwangnyongsa Temple, and the Sanseong Fortress District was important for the defense of the royal capital. To this very day, the city of Gyeongju cherishes such millennial treasures.
